 Boys Farm Themed Room

When we received a video showing footage of the farm themed bedroom Amanda and her family created for two year old Andrew in St. Louis, MO, we were blown away. Not only did Andrew get a farm wall mural on but a room filled with farm themed accessories and a pretty cool tractor bed put together by his Papa Bob with special touches throughout the room. Here is what Amanda had to tell us about using My Wonderful Walls self-adhesive wall stencils and paint to help create this farm themed kids room.

My Wonderful Walls: Tell us a little about why you chose this theme for your kids’ room mural.

Amanda: Our family has a small farm where we enjoy spending weekends. My son, Andrew, particularly loves tractor rides with Papa Bob as well as navigating through corn fields. He also 'helped' install the windmill which is why we added that decal. I love taking pictures. My son is probably the most photographed 2 year old on the planet. It’s fun for me to take a lot of family pictures and edit them into various things like the pillows and blankets I used in the farm room.

MWW: What was your child’s reaction to the mural when he first saw it?

Amanda: Extremely excited. He named off each picture, the barn, the corn, the animals and the tractor.

MWW: Does Andrew ever make up stories or create imaginary games involving the scenes on his walls? If so, can you tell us about some of them?

Amanda: He compares the scenes on the walls to what he enjoys doing at his Papa's farm.

MWW: Why did you choose stencils over stickers?

Amanda: I chose stencils because I like the flexibility of changing colors and that I was able to flip them over to have the animals go in multiple directions. (Readers please note our stencils are only adhesive on one side)

MWW: How long did it take you to complete the project?

Amanda: The stenciling took about 3 days.

MWW: What did you enjoy about the wall mural creation experience? Was it what you had expected?

Amanda: I enjoyed the paint kit and color guidelines. Those were a huge help. I also enjoyed the adhesive on the stencils. I was able to reuse each stencil multiple times and it didn't impact the walls.

It was a lot of work for a big room but the outcome is definitely worth it. People are very impressed with how the stencils look. I like that people think I am a lot more talented than I am. I am not an artist by any means but this room makes it look like I could be.

MWW: Did you add any personal touches to the standard wall mural you received?

Amanda: Yes, I added a windmill decal to one of the walls as well as a small lake. I saw a lake added in one picture on your site and I thought that was a great idea so I duplicated it. . I also added a little hay on the window of the barn.

MWW: Do you have a favorite piece or favorite scene you created?

Amanda: Honestly, I love it all. Every time I walk by the room I think, this is the cutest room I have ever seen. If I had to pick one, I would say the barn stencil because it is very striking.

MWW: Do you have any helpful tips for people who use our products?

Amanda: Patience and spread out your time. Start with the biggest stencil. The barn was a focal point and it was also the hardest to even out on the wall because of the size. I am glad I did that first. Secondly, I would say just have fun with it. I found myself talking to my little animals. The cow had a lot of details. I would highly recommend using the paint kit and the paint colors they suggest. It looks great.

Also, the tracing paper for the animal’s eyes is helpful but can get all over the painted animal. Use with caution. I lightly stenciled and then filled in with permanent marker.

Thanks for those tips Amanda and for sharing Andrew's room with us. When you watch the video below showing the evolution of Andrew’s farm room, keep an eye out for the photo pillows and blanket made with photos Amanda took. Amanda tells us she is expecting baby number two soon and she is busy trying to coordinate matching holiday outfits. We hope that the new baby will join the growing My Wonderful Walls family one day too!
