Creative decorating ideas for your baby nursery or girl's room, using the "Splendid Garden" Flower Theme Stencil Kit:
Use the furniture: Don't limit yourself to painting the characters and flowers from the floor up. You can raise the wall art up and off the ground with the help of existing furniture in your nursery or girl's room. Paint a potted bunch of tulips on the wall on top of the dresser. Perch a peacock on mirror or door frame corners. Leap the frog over bookshelves. Place the curious mouse so it appears as if he is trying to climb up the nightstand. Paint a delightful row of daisies at the head of the bed or crib. Cluster a few beautiful butterflies around a lamp. Buzz the bees around the light switch. Sprout grass above the art table or chalkboard. The possibilities are endless!
Layer and raise: You can elevate the stencils and give depth to the scene by painting gently sloping hills or a grassy field before beginning to stencil. Use a roll brush to create a grassy knoll behind where the flowering tree will be. Paint a field in the distance behind where the picket fence will be. Or roll out a meadow that will soon be filled with flowers and bees. This extra step is sure to add to the WOW factor of your girl's room or nursery design.
Paint on the ceiling: Don't be afraid to go above and beyond the walls and paint on the ceiling of your child's room. Our butterflies, bees, birds and dragonflies are not afraid of heights, so why should you be?
Embellish the stencils: You can embellish the stencils with simple materials found in your local craft store. Add texture and sparkle to the stencils by gluing brightly colored sequins to the wings of the butterflies or birds. Use miniature circular mirrors as flower centers or affix a larger mirror to the sun's center. Try giving the peacock and dragonfly silly personalities by gluing on googly eyes. Meander a stone path through the grass by using glass rocks or mosaic materials. If your child is old enough, she will enjoy helping you design the wall art herself. (Make sure all embellishments are securely affixed to the wall and will not pose a choking hazard.)
Stencil directly onto fabric: You can use fabric paint to stencil our designs directly onto fabrics such as curtains, rugs, pillowcases, comforters, lampshades, cloth storage boxes, rugs and more. Turn a plain white curtain into a garden paradise by painting a row of lilies at the base. Fly a group of our charming birds around a simple lampshade. Paint a quaint picket fence onto a basic comforter. Perch our pretty peacock on a solid-colored pillowcase. There is no limit to what or where you can stencil when decorating your child's room!
Stencil directly onto furniture and bedroom accessories: Use the stencils to give character to dressers, headboards, side tables, wastebaskets, wall hooks, step-stools, coat racks, wooden crates, hat boxes, bookends, toy chests, etc. With a minimal amount of work, you can turn that drab dresser or plain tin trash can into a gorgeous floral showpiece!
Give a face-lift to the dresser with colorful drawer pulls: Want to transform your child's dresser simply and inexpensively? Pick up some basic wooden drawer pulls from your local hardware store and paint them with coordinating colors. In no time at all you'll have given that old dresser an adorable face-lift, and you'll see how easy and affordable child bedroom décor can be!
Accessorize with household items: Decorating your child's room doesn't have to put a strain on your wallet. Look around your house for items to accessorize the space. Here are a few simple and fun ideas for our flower theme kit:
Create a writable surface: Give your child room to explore her artistic side by making a large writing surface on the wall. Special paints used to convert surfaces into usable chalkboards or dry-erase boards are readily available at your local craft or hardware store. First, create a rectangular drawing surface for your child, and then beautify it by buzzing a group of our bees around one of the corners or perch a sweet little bird on top.
Turn stencils shapes into magnetic surfaces: The refrigerator doesn't have to be the only place in your house for magnets. You can find special paints at your craft or hardware store that convert surfaces that attract magnets. Turn a watering can or bird house into a magnetic surface by painting with this special magnet paint instead of regular paints. Or create a larger rectangular magnetic surface first and then flutter a cluster of our butterflies around one of the corners or leap our friendly frog across the top. See how limitless kid wall décor can be?!
Build a simple bed cubby: Does your child still use a rail to keep her safe and sound in bed? If so, you can provide both safety and create a private cubby at the same time. Place the bed in a corner of the room and secure a three or four-foot-wide plywood sheet to the floor, wall and ceiling of the open side of the bed (pre-painted with base color). Take advantage of all the new surface area you have created in your child's room and make it home to a spectacular flowering tree or friendly picket fence lined with grasses and flowers.
